Chancellor won't request tuition hike

Chancellor James Moeser said Thursday that he will not propose any tuition increase for in-state undergraduates for the 2008-09 academic year.
The move is part of an ongoing effort to tie tuition rates more closely to state appropriations. This summer, legislators provided a substantial windfall for the state's public universities, and for UNC-Chapel Hill in particular. As a result, UNC-system officials are calling on campuses to strongly limit resident tuition hikes. "The General Assembly has done their part," said Rob Nelson, UNC-system vice president for finance.
